Era il 1974 quando Non Aprite quella porta di Tobe Hooper uscì nelle sale americane. Un film low budget che fruttó al botteghino numeri da capogiro, e che cambierà per sempre la storia dell’horror.
Protagonista assoluto è il Texas, con le sue lande assolate e assetate di olio motore, di carne e sangue freschi. Insieme al Texas, protagonista è l’America stessa. Leatherface è il lato più perverso del sogno americano, indottrinato dalla sua stessa famiglia all’odio e alla violenza.
Non aprite quella porta è uno specchio dell’orrore della tipica famiglia borghese, e la scena della cena con la ragazza legata alla tavola insieme all’intera famiglia ne è l’emblema più significativo. Faccia di cuoio è diventato il mostro con la motosega dopo anni di ripetute violenze, perpetrate dalla sua stessa famiglia in una bizzarra logica di gioco al massacro.
In quel banchetto dell’orrore, seduta a tavola c’è la famiglia americana, che taglia a pezzi con la motosega tutto ciò che attraversa i suoi confini.
